Abstract

The chapter focuses on the critical issue of land disturbance in forest areas, particularly in the tropical basin of Bedugul, Bali. It examines the distinctions between forest degradation and deforestation, highlighting the impact of both natural and anthropogenic factors on forest quality and quantity. The study employs multi-temporal satellite imagery from Landsat TM and Landsat 8 OLI to analyze landscape metrics and land cover changes from 2000 to 2020. This detailed analysis reveals the spatial patterns and ecological disturbances in the Bedugul area, providing valuable insights for environmental sustainability management. The research identifies key areas of concern, such as sedimentation in lake areas and the conversion of agricultural land to settlements, which exacerbate ecological issues. By quantifying landscape metrics, the study offers a novel approach to monitoring and evaluating land use/cover changes, essential for informing conservation efforts and sustainable land use planning in ecologically sensitive regions.
