Abstract

This chapter explores the application of Acoustic Emission Technique (AET) to assess damage in cementitious beams, focusing on concrete, mortar, and cement paste. The study investigates the localization of AE sources, characterization of damage modes, and quantification of damage severity. Key findings include the effective use of k-means clustering for signal classification and the RA method for damage mode identification. The research highlights the predominance of tensile (Mode I) damage in concrete and mortar beams, while cement paste beams exhibit a mix of tensile and shear (Mode II) damage. The study concludes that AET is a reliable method for monitoring structural integrity and classifying damage in cementitious materials, offering precise and cost-effective insights into material behavior under stress.
