Abstract

This study focuses on the quantitative characteristics and age structure of Apatania crymophila larvae inhabiting aquatic moss in the Yenisei River downstream of the Krasnoyarsk Hydroelectric Plant. The investigation reveals the seasonal dynamics of larval populations and assesses the influence of water temperature and river level on their biomass production. The study highlights the significant changes in the thermal and hydrological regimes of the Yenisei River due to the construction of the Krasnoyarsk HEP, which has led to the massive development of aquatic moss and the subsequent proliferation of A. crymophila larvae. The results indicate that the larvae of A. crymophila constitute a major dietary component for the grayling, an important commercial fish species in the middle Yenisei. The study provides valuable insights into the environmental factors affecting the productivity of the benthic invertebrate community, which serves as a crucial food source for commercial fish populations in the Yenisei River.
