Commodities containing rare earth, such as personal computers, hybrid cars, smart phones, and tablets, are now an essential part of daily life. A dependency on such high-tech products will most likely only increase in the future. Several forecasts show that the global demand for light REE and heavy REE are projected to rise (Humphries, 2013, p. 4).1
