Abstract

The article introduces a real-time motor imagery-based brain-computer interface (BCI) system that enables individuals with spinal cord injuries to control robotic devices through brain signals. It emphasizes the challenges of non-invasive BCIs, such as noise susceptibility and the difficulty in distinguishing between resting and active states. The study proposes a method to accurately detect the resting state using common spatial patterns (CSP) and artificial intelligence models, including convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and random forests (RFs). The system is designed to work in asynchronous mode, allowing users to control a robotic arm with their thoughts. The authors demonstrate the effectiveness of their approach through extensive data analysis and real-time implementation, highlighting the potential for practical applications in rehabilitation and assistive technologies.
