Abstract

The construction industry, a significant contributor to the global economy, has faced substantial setbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This chapter delves into the multifaceted impacts of the pandemic on construction operations, highlighting the need for both short-term and long-term strategies to navigate the crisis. It explores how measures such as quarantine protocols and mobility restrictions have impeded project timelines and budgetary constraints, necessitating a meticulous review of contract terms. The research differentiates itself by engaging with industry stakeholders to classify critical factors into four distinct categories: Health-Safety Solutions, Technological Solutions, Government Solutions, and Enterprise Solutions. A survey distributed among construction industry experts provides valuable insights into the most effective recovery strategies. Key recommendations include mandating COVID-19 vaccinations for workers, supporting testing costs, providing personal protective equipment, and leveraging technological innovations like Building Information Modeling (BIM) and cloud computing. The chapter also discusses the importance of government interventions, such as loan extensions and expedited funding disbursement, in fostering industry recovery. By offering a detailed analysis and practical solutions, this chapter provides a roadmap for enhancing the efficacy of recovery efforts in the construction industry.
