The VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland has compared three technical solutions for reducing particulate emissions from marine engines: a diesel-particle filter system by Hug Engineering as an aftertreatment path for distillate fuel, an LNG burning dual-fuel engine by Wärtsilä without additional exhaust cleaning and a wet electrostatic precipitator by Valmet in combination with a wet scrubber and heavy fuel oil operation. While these pathways are fundamentally different, all achieve low particle emissions. …
