Abstract

This chapter delves into the intricate relationship between power, conflict, and development finance, highlighting how these factors collectively influence economic growth and disparities. It begins by exploring the economic implications of power theory, emphasizing how resource allocation, institutional influence, and governance mechanisms shape development outcomes. The text then examines the link between economic power structures and conflicts, particularly in resource-rich but institutionally weak regions, illustrating how power asymmetries can lead to market failures and unequal access to resources. The chapter also discusses the role of development finance in addressing power imbalances, focusing on the influence of international financial institutions and domestic financial frameworks. It concludes with policy recommendations aimed at bridging the gap between power, development, and finance, including strengthening institutional capacity, promoting inclusive development finance, and advocating for more inclusive decision-making in international financial governance. Additionally, the chapter reflects on the necessity of an economic revolution in Sub-Saharan Africa and other developing countries, arguing for a radical transformation in economic thinking and structures to achieve sustainable and equitable growth. It also explores why resource endowment does not automatically translate into sustainable development, highlighting the role of institutional fragility, governance challenges, and external structural constraints.
