Water supply in the Ruhr area primarily involves extracting water from the Ruhr River. Volatile natural water conditions mean that demand can only be consistently met by operating dams on the Ruhr’s tributaries, such as the Ennepe River. The Ennepe Dam was acquired by the Ruhrverband (Ruhr River Association) in 1997 and upgraded to the latest technical standards by 2001. A key element of the extensive rehabilitation project entailed creating an inspection and drainage gallery. …
