Abstract

The article delves into the critical role of thermal history in powder production for additive manufacturing and sintering operations. It addresses the challenges in modeling cooling rates during solidification, particularly for industrial alloys. The paper introduces a new model to characterize cooling rates in the mushy zone without relying on structural data, which is often time-consuming and complex. This model is validated using pyrometer data from microgravity experiments on CoSi and FeCrNi alloys. The study emphasizes the significance of understanding cooling behavior to predict microstructural evolution and ensure product quality in powder manufacturing.
