Abstract

The chapter focuses on the remediation of goaf areas in Yulin, Shaanxi Province, China, to facilitate resettlement. The project area is known for rich coal resources and widespread coal mining activities, leading to the creation of unstable goafs. The remediation involves drilling boreholes, grouting, and sand filling to stabilize the goafs. The total area of the goafs is approximately 21,079 m², with specific volumes associated with the 4 −3 and 5 −2 coal seams. The remediation process includes various techniques such as hydrogeological investigation, grout curtain boreholes, and grouting boreholes. The work plan requires a grouting volume of 36,214 m³, with the actual volume exceeding this by approximately 20,000 m³. Post-remediation performance testing and monitoring are conducted to ensure the effectiveness of the remediation. The remediation sequence follows a strategic order, beginning with curtain grouting and later focusing on interior areas. The chapter also discusses handling special situations during the remediation process and the importance of monitoring for deformation and water quality. The project's duration was approximately 100 days, with quality control measures in place to ensure the safety and stability of the remediated area. Variations from the engineering design were addressed through a change proposal process. The project's quality was evaluated through various inspections, including construction data, drilling and grouting inspections, and performance testing. The project team implemented dynamic progress management and safety measures to ensure the successful completion of the remediation project.
