The article delves into the development of a new process for remelting iron shavings using an electroslag smelting (ESS) furnace with graphite electrodes. By employing the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) Deming cycle, researchers identified the optimal furnace parameters to minimize metal loss during remelting. The ESS furnace, designed with a liquid slag layer, ensures uniform heating and protects the melt from the atmosphere, resulting in a metal loss of only 2%. This innovative technology not only reduces waste but also produces high-quality castings, making it a significant advancement in the foundry industry.
