Abstract

The chapter delves into the research findings and future directions identified by the Smart City 4.0 Sustainable LAB, focusing on the ideology and challenges of the Smart City concept. It critically reflects on the over-reliance on technological innovation and the need for political and ethical guidance in urban development. The text argues that the Smart City project is fragile due to its reliance on specialized technological innovation without adequate measures to control and measure its impact. It emphasizes the importance of political action in guiding and calibrating technological innovations to serve the community. The chapter also explores the potential of temporary citizenship and the role of digital infrastructures in enhancing urban quality of life. Additionally, it discusses the concept of 'home-infrastructure' as a new vision for living in post-COVID cities and the role of digital technologies in transforming urban mobility. The text concludes by highlighting the need for a balanced approach that integrates technological innovation with ethical and political considerations to create a sustainable and wise city of the future.
