Abstract

This chapter delves into the critical issue of voltage stability in modern power systems, emphasizing the importance of reactive power compensation to prevent voltage instability and enhance system performance. The text introduces a comprehensive risk assessment method, including probability-based indicators such as voltage exceedance, tidal current exceedance, and voltage instability, to identify weak links in the power grid. Through a detailed analysis of a target network, the chapter highlights the impact of reactive power compensation on voltage stability, particularly in weak substations. The study proposes specific compensation strategies, such as adding reactive power compensation devices to key transformers, to improve voltage levels and stabilize the system. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of these strategies, providing practical guidance for enhancing power grid stability and reducing network losses.
