Abstract

This chapter delves into the pre-planning process for school space innovation projects, with a specific focus on the high school credit system in Korea. It examines the necessity of transforming educational facilities to accommodate the evolving learning preferences of the digital generation and the demands of the new credit system. The study draws on data from Wonju Girls’ High School, incorporating theoretical frameworks, case studies, and field surveys to analyze the characteristics and limitations of the pre-planning process. Notably, the chapter highlights the importance of student and teacher participation in the design process through workshops, which foster mutual understanding and creative idea generation. The research identifies discrepancies in spatial demands between students and teachers and proposes measures to enhance user participation and improve the overall design process. The chapter concludes with recommendations for future improvements, emphasizing the need for seamless communication and collaboration among stakeholders to create restructured and improved school spaces.
