Abstract

The article reviews the application of MEMS sensors in detecting flow separation, a critical issue in aircraft flight control. Traditional inertial sensors have limitations in measuring local flow parameters, but the advent of MEMS sensors, such as hot-film anemometers and Artificial Hair Sensors (AHSs), offers non-invasive and high-resolution monitoring. These sensors can be integrated over the surface of flying objects to measure local flow field parameters with no disturbance or efficiency compromise. MEMS sensors have the potential to revolutionize aerodynamic flow control by sensing and controlling flow instabilities, enhancing aircraft performance and stability. The review discusses the development of MEMS sensors, their integration into flexible skins, and their application in active flow control strategies. It also highlights the advantages and limitations of MEMS sensors compared to conventional methods, making it a valuable resource for specialists in the field of aerodynamics and MEMS technology.
