Gabriele Marranci begins this interesting and worthwhile book with an apt disclaimer: ‘Another book on fundamentalism?’ (p. 1). In view of the number of works on the topic (Marranci counts over 100 books between 2001 and 2009 alone), he can hear potential readers and others wondering aloud how another book on fundamentalism might be able to offer an original contribution. It is worth noting in this connection that the library of works on fundamentalism has continued to grow since this 2009 work (one might mention works by Strozier et al., Martensson et al., and a new edition of Choueiri’s Islamic Fundamentalism). For his part, Marranci has something novel and provocative to say. …
