Abstract

This study delves into the seasonal dynamics of apical growth in Scotch pine trees, focusing on the infradian rhythms that govern this process. The research identifies four distinct growth stages, each lasting between one to four weeks, and highlights the oscillatory nature of growth rates and accelerations. A key finding is the correlation between air temperature and growth rates, with temperature playing a significant role in determining the onset and duration of growth stages. The study also explores the impact of removing branches on the growth dynamics of the stem, revealing that while the growth rate decreases, the overall seasonal dynamics remain unchanged. Additionally, the research investigates the influence of environmental factors such as temperature and precipitation on the growth patterns of both the stem and branches. The study concludes that the proposed hypotheses about the presence of infradian rhythms and the varying influence of endogenous and exogenous factors on growth dynamics are fully or partially confirmed. The findings provide valuable insights into the growth mechanisms of Scotch pine trees and the factors that regulate their morphogenesis.
