Abstract

This article delves into the 'right to be forgotten' for mortgage insurance issued to cancer survivors, focusing on the critical assessment of existing methods and proposing a new approach to determine appropriate waiting periods for access to insurance coverage. The study begins by introducing the context of outstanding balance insurance and the challenges faced by cancer survivors in accessing financial services. It then critically evaluates previous methods by Soetewey et al. and Van Ginckel et al., highlighting their limitations, particularly the reliance on extrapolation methods that introduce uncertainty. The authors propose a new approach that avoids extrapolation by using available data up to 10 years post-diagnosis, ensuring greater consistency and reliability. The method is based on a parallel shift in the force of mortality curve and is applied to different cancer types and stages, demonstrating its effectiveness and practicality. The article concludes by discussing the implications of the proposed approach and its potential for improving access to financial services for cancer survivors.
