Abstract

The chapter introduces a new risk assessment model for maritime accidents, focusing on the evolution of human and technological factors over centuries. By analyzing 3200 maritime accident investigation reports, the authors identify five key risk metrics: fatality, damage, pollution, capsize, and total cost. The proposed model considers 94 causes of maritime accidents, classified into nine groups, and aims to validate the model through regression analysis. This data-driven approach offers a unique perspective on risk assessment in maritime transportation, highlighting the critical factors contributing to maritime accidents and providing a framework for proactive risk management.
