The article delves into the energy-intensive process of rolling hot- and cold-rolled strips, focusing on the use of nondriven rollers in four-high mill stands. It highlights the potential for significant energy savings by reducing the rolling force and friction coefficient through the use of nondriven rollers. The study presents a new method for determining the friction coefficient in these processes, backed by experimental data. The results show that rolling-and-drawing in nondriven rollers can reduce the rolling force by up to 32% and energy costs by up to 13%, making it a promising approach for energy-efficient metal processing.
