Abstract

This chapter delves into the critical aspects of rotor strength analysis and design for high-speed permanent magnet synchronous motors (HSPSMs). It begins by highlighting the advantages of HSPSMs, such as high power density and efficiency, and their applications in various industries. The primary challenge addressed is the tensile stress generated by high-speed rotation, which can lead to permanent magnet failure. The chapter reviews existing research on rotor strength analysis, including the impact of sleeve materials, thickness, and interference. It then introduces a novel design method based on a stress analytical model that considers temperature and material anisotropy. This model is validated through finite element analysis, demonstrating its accuracy and reliability. The chapter concludes by presenting an optimized design for a 100,000 r/min HSPSM rotor, showcasing the potential for significant improvements in motor performance and durability.
