Abstract

This chapter delves into the application of Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) and Post-Processed Kinematic (PPK) Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) methods in automatic bridge monitoring. The study focuses on evaluating the performance of these methods in real-time structural health monitoring systems, which are crucial for ensuring the safety and integrity of large bridge structures. The research utilizes two advanced N3 receivers, capable of acquiring signals from multiple satellite constellations, to compare the accuracy and reliability of RTK and PPK methods. The experiment involves moving the receivers in horizontal and vertical directions using a precision mechanical vise and lead screw, with displacement values recorded and analyzed. The results indicate that both methods have their strengths and weaknesses, with PPK showing slightly better accuracy in certain directions. The study concludes that the choice between RTK and PPK methods depends on the specific requirements of the monitoring task, such as the need for real-time results or long-term displacement monitoring. This comprehensive analysis provides valuable insights for professionals involved in bridge monitoring and structural health assessment.
