Abstract

The pursuit of happiness has long been debated in philosophy and psychology, with various approaches and definitions. This article focuses on a dynamical model of happiness based on an approach–avoidance framework, using an approach–avoidance motivation theory to understand the influence of stimuli on happiness levels. The model distinguishes between hedonic and eudaimonic dimensions of happiness, with the hedonic principle focusing on pleasure and pain avoidance. The study emphasizes the importance of hedonic adaptation and the impact of success and failure in approach–avoidance strategies on happiness fluctuations. The model provides a unique perspective on the complex interplay between psychological processes and happiness dynamics, offering valuable insights for further research and practical applications in understanding and promoting well-being.
