Abstract

This chapter delves into the critical aspects of sanitary sewer construction, focusing on three primary methodologies: open-cut, pilot tube, and lift station with force main. It evaluates each method against a comprehensive set of criteria, including social, economic, environmental, and technical factors. The analysis employs the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) to rank the alternatives based on expert inputs from developers, city engineers, and the public. The study concludes that the conventional open-trench method is the preferred option, despite the city experts' inclination towards the pilot tube method. The chapter also highlights the varying perspectives and priorities of different stakeholders, providing a nuanced understanding of the decision-making process in urban infrastructure projects. Additionally, it discusses the importance of sustainability in construction, emphasizing the need for balanced consideration of all relevant factors to achieve optimal outcomes.
