Abstract

The chapter focuses on the design and implementation of task-design changes within an intelligent tutoring system (ITS), specifically MATHia, to improve student mastery of quadratic equation solving. The case study highlights two interventions: the addition of optional scaffolding and a nudge to encourage its use. While the scaffolding alone had minimal impact, the nudge significantly improved student performance. The study underscores the potential of small design changes to enhance learning outcomes and provides insights into the iterative design process in educational technology.
