Abstract

This chapter delves into the seismic performance of precast column-footing socket connections, a critical aspect of accelerated bridge construction (ABC). The study focuses on the development and validation of a numerical model using finite element analysis (FEA) software LS-DYNA. Key topics include the experimental testing of connection specimens, the material properties of normal concrete (NC) and UHPC, and the modeling of bond interfaces using equivalent beam elements (EBEs). The research investigates the effects of different modeling techniques on the seismic behavior of member socket connections (MSC), comparing tie constraints, surface contact, and EBEs. The findings highlight the importance of accurate modeling in predicting seismic performance and damage control. The study concludes that the developed FEA model effectively captures the sliding mechanism and seismic behavior of MSC, offering valuable insights for the design and construction of bridge substructures in high-seismicity regions.
