Abstract

The article discusses the critical importance of methane drainage in underground coal mining to prevent explosions and ensure safe working conditions. It presents a case study of the Parvadeh Tabas coal mine in Iran, where the optimal borehole drilling pattern was determined through statistical analysis. The study found that boreholes with lengths between 60 to 80 meters and specific angles relative to the tailgate axis and a line perpendicular to it were most effective in reducing methane concentrations. The results highlight the significance of proper drainage system design and maintenance in enhancing mine safety and productivity.
