The increasing use of liquefied natural gas as a fuel for large engines poses new challenges for the associated safety concept. Unburned methane may enter the crankcase via blow-by effects and accumulate to above the lower explosive limit. In cooperation with Saarland University, Schaller Automation has developed a sensor system for the selective measurement of methane concentrations and is expanding this technology to include selective hydrogen measurement in the future. …
