Abstract

The article introduces a semi-automatic method for identifying tunnel discontinuities based on 3D laser scanning and an improved Regional Growth (RG) algorithm. It highlights the challenges of traditional manual and non-contact survey methods, and how 3D laser scanning offers superior accuracy and efficiency. The method involves voxel filtering, normal vector calculation, and discontinuity extraction using the improved RG algorithm. The article also includes parameter sensitivity analysis and case studies to demonstrate the method's effectiveness and robustness. The method is shown to be more efficient and accurate than existing methods, making it a valuable tool for tunnel engineering professionals.
