Abstract

The chapter presents a research project focused on integrating sensor-embedded fabrics into asphalt to monitor structural damage in road pavements. It covers the design and manufacture of the fabric, laboratory testing, and the development of a software solution for interpreting measurement data. The project aims to provide early detection of damage and continuous monitoring, leveraging advanced machine learning methods for data analysis. The fabric is designed to withstand installation stresses and environmental conditions, with practical considerations for data transmission and energy efficiency. The chapter highlights the potential of this approach for enhancing road infrastructure maintenance and safety.
