Abstract

Magnetic fluids are materials that can be successful used in sensors and actuators as the active mass. Due to their intrinsic nature, magnetic fluids can be manipulated and controlled by suitable magnetic field which can modify their physical properties such as density and viscosity. Above mechanism gives the opportunity to electrically control fundamental characteristics such as operative range, resolution and responsivity. In this paper a brief introduction on magnetic fluids is given along with examples of their use in sensors.
