The style and the content of this book show that the authors have enthusiastically started a cultural and scientific endeavour which surely deserves a great investment in intelligence and study. The formulation of continuum models for deformable proud media infused with a compressible fluid is a rather challenging task. Many different approached are conceivable: (1) to try a micro–macro identification procedure, which starting from a micro model characterised by simple mechanical models but complex body geometry leads to a macro model with simpler geometry but more complex mechanical models, (2) a direct approach postulating “ad hoc” macro models, (3) molecular approaches where the solid and the fluid (or the fluid alone) are modelled directly by finite dimensional models. The authors chose to use the approach of the kind (2) being only intuitively inspired by the procedure on which the approach (1) is based. …
