Abstract

The article delves into the estimation of current duration data in cross-sectional studies, focusing on the challenges posed by backward recurrence times. It introduces shape-constrained estimation methods, specifically log-concavity and convexity constraints, to improve the accuracy of survival function estimations. The authors provide a thorough theoretical framework, supported by simulation studies and real-world applications, to demonstrate the effectiveness of these methods. The article also discusses the implications of these findings for practical scenarios, such as the duration of nursing home stays and the intervals between suicidal thoughts. By addressing the limitations of existing nonparametric techniques, the article offers a novel approach to handling current duration data, making it an essential read for those interested in advancing survival analysis methods.
