Abstract

The article investigates the shear buckling mode and failure of flat fiber-reinforced specimens under axial compression. It employs the method of finite sums to solve a boundary-value problem, reducing it to integral-algebraic equations. Experimental studies on specimens made from ELUR-P carbon tape and HSE 180REM prepreg reveal that failure occurs due to loss of load-bearing capacity in shear stresses, rather than axial compression. The results highlight the inadequacy of current test standards for determining the compressive strength of composites with high orthotropy. The article also presents detailed numerical simulations and comparisons with physical experiments, providing valuable insights into the failure mechanisms of composite materials.
