Abstract

The chapter delves into the application of shear forging to aluminum and copper materials, highlighting the critical conditions for folding generation determined through finite element method (FEM) simulations. It presents a conceptual diagram of the shear forging process and discusses the simulation conditions for various materials, including pure copper, cold-rolled low carbon steel, pure aluminum, and aluminum alloy. The chapter also covers the experimental validation of the simulations, showcasing the vertical cross-section and surface texture of the workpieces after shear forging. Notably, it demonstrates the absence of folding defects in the experiments and provides insights into the surface roughness profiles, making it a comprehensive resource for understanding the intricacies of shear forging in these materials.
