Abstract

The chapter presents a meticulous simulation study on the optimization of passive micromixers, focusing on the Koch fractal design. It investigates the impact of various design parameters, including cross-section shapes, inlet angles, obstacles, and 3D printing methods, on the mixing efficiency of the Rounded Corners Secondary Fractal (RCSM) Koch fractal micromixer. The study employs an orthogonal array design to systematically analyze these parameters, revealing that the 3D printing method exerts the most significant influence on mixing efficiency. Notably, the combination of a trapezoid cross-sectional shape, a 180° inlet angle, the absence of additional obstacles, and the use of the SLA 3D printing method yielded the highest mixing efficiency of 0.976. The chapter provides a detailed analysis of the concentration distribution and mixing efficiency at different cross-sections of the micromixer, offering valuable insights into the design and optimization of passive micromixers. The findings contribute to the development of more efficient and cost-effective microfluidic systems, paving the way for advancements in various applications, from biomedical research to industrial processes.
