Abstract

The article investigates the simultaneous enhancement of toughness and stiffness in biodegradable poly (butylene succinate) (PBS) through the incorporation of poly (butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) and starch plasticized with erythritol tetranonanoate (ETNT). The study highlights the significant improvements in mechanical properties, particularly the impact strength, achieved by the addition of PBAT-g-GMA, which acts as a toughening agent. The research employs various analytical techniques, including DSC, XRD, and SEM, to elucidate the structural and morphological changes induced by the modifications. The results demonstrate that the addition of PBAT-g-GMA and TPS not only enhances the toughness but also maintains the stiffness of the polymer blends, making them suitable for a wide range of applications. The article also delves into the crystallization behavior and rheological properties of the blends, providing a comprehensive understanding of the underlying mechanisms that contribute to their improved performance. The findings offer valuable insights into the development of sustainable and high-performance biodegradable materials, paving the way for innovative solutions in the field of polymer engineering.
