Abstract

The chapter delves into the strategic partnership between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and China, focusing on the integration of the GCC into China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). It explores the geopolitical significance of this partnership in the context of great power competition, particularly the rivalry between the US and China. The chapter discusses the economic, political, and security dimensions of this partnership, including energy cooperation, trade, investment, and technological advancements. It also examines the challenges faced by the GCC countries in balancing their security partnership with the US while deepening their economic ties with China. The analysis highlights the strategic importance of the Middle East in China’s global ambitions and the potential implications for regional stability and the international order.
