Abstract

The article delves into the solidification behavior of EH36 shipbuilding steel weld metals, focusing on the influence of SiO2-bearing fluxes. It discusses the two primary solidification paths—peritectic and primary δ solidification—and how flux composition can shift these paths, impacting the final microstructure and mechanical properties. The study employs advanced in situ observation techniques, such as confocal scanning laser microscopy (CSLM), to capture real-time microstructural evolution and quantify solidification kinetics. This approach provides valuable insights into the role of flux optimization in tailoring solidification behaviors, which is crucial for achieving desired end-user properties in welded materials.
