Abstract

The article focuses on the long-term slake durability of granitic rocks under various conditions, including dry conditions and a Na2SO4 solution. It highlights the destructive effects of Na2SO4 salt on rock materials, which are commonly used in coastal structures like breakwaters. The study evaluates the durability of different rock types using the slake durability index (SDI) and examines the influence of petrographic characteristics and strength on rock decay. The authors also investigate the role of wetting-drying cycles and specimen abrasion in rock decay during slake durability tests. Predictive models based on petrographic and strength characteristics are developed to assess the long-term slake durability of granitic rocks. The findings offer valuable insights into the factors affecting rock durability and provide practical tools for predicting the performance of granitic rocks in coastal structures.
