Abstract

This study delves into the intricate relationship between sleep patterns and short-term memory performance among Saudi university students, utilizing structural equation modelling to uncover the underlying mechanisms. The research identifies key factors such as academic workload, lifestyle habits, and external stressors that significantly influence sleep quality and, consequently, memory recall abilities. The findings reveal that consistent sleep patterns are positively associated with better memory performance, while disruptions in sleep due to academic pressure and poor lifestyle choices lead to diminished cognitive function. The study also highlights the moderating effects of gender, field of study, and stress levels on the sleep-memory connection. Furthermore, it underscores the importance of addressing sleep disorders and promoting awareness about the cognitive benefits of sleep. By providing a comprehensive analysis of these relationships, the study offers valuable insights for developing targeted interventions to enhance sleep quality and academic outcomes among university students.
