Abstract

The chapter delves into the intricate issue of slope creep instability in Krajang Lor Village, Magelang Regency, Central Java, Indonesia. It begins by defining soil creep and its common occurrence in expansive soil slopes. The study focuses on a specific case where soil creep has been observed on a volcanic residual soil slope, causing significant damage to local housing. The authors investigate the primary factors inducing soil creep, including mineralogical composition, water content, driving stress, and shear strength parameters. They then develop a slope stability model based on Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion to evaluate the thickness of the creep zone and critical slope angles. Additionally, a logarithmic creep modeling approach is employed to predict future creep displacement. The chapter concludes with practical implications for local planning and land use management, highlighting the need for prompt action to mitigate further damage.
