Abstract

The article delves into the control of sloshing in swaying and rolling rectangular tanks using lateral porous baffles. It introduces a MEEM-based analytical tool and a DBEM numerical solution to investigate the effects of baffle porosity, length, submergence depth, and inclined angle on sloshing suppression. The study also includes systematic experiments to validate the analytical and numerical findings. The results show that lateral porous baffles, particularly with an optimal porosity of around 0.1, effectively reduce sloshing energy and dampen fluid motions, making them a valuable tool for initial design in various industrial applications.
