Abstract

In this chapter, the argument is made that the act of slowing down produces a sense of duration and presence unavailable to speedier and more editing-reliant kinds of films. In visualizing duration, so to speak, Stray Dogs—and other films in the slow cinema vein—open up a space for a range of ethical processes like reflection, recognition, empathy, and imagination.
