Abstract

The concept, structure and benefits of the smart gird and the smart metering are discussed in this chapter. The old gird system, its drawbacks, and the importance of a smart grid in today’s world are remarked. The structure of smart metering systems and its benefits including energy efficiency and conservation are highlighted. Relevance of demand management integrated with smart metering is reported. Worldwide smart metering projects, their outcomes, and trends of smart metering in some countries are also discussed.
