Abstract

The rate of migration from rural to urban areas is increasing across the world at a fast pace. With majority of population expected to be living in urban area by 2050, there is an emerging need for the cities to be smart. Information systems bind the core elements for a smart city—mobility, economy, environment, governance and living. Smartness of a space lies in its aesthetics and attractiveness, healthy environment, ability to create social cohesion and economic viability. These spaces benefit the communities directly and indirectly. The success of establishing these spaces relies to a considerable extent on the legislation and the legal framework of the area. This research is focused on living. An attempt has been made to understand the living in smart cities and the adequacy of the prevalent laws has been assessed. The need is to promulgate laws that would support and strengthen the system for the success of concepts like Smart living in a Smart City.
