Abstract

This chapter delves into the critical issue of water pollution and the innovative use of smart nanocomposites for its remediation. It explores various types of pollutants, including heavy metals, organic dyes, and pharmaceuticals, and their sources. The text discusses different types of smart nanocomposites, such as natural fiber-reinforced, biopolymer-based, polymer, metal, graphene-based, and hybrid nanocomposites, and their mechanisms for pollutant removal. It also highlights the role of artificial intelligence in optimizing nanocomposite performance and the criteria for eco-friendly nanocomposites. The chapter concludes that smart nanocomposites hold great promise for effective pollutant removal, but challenges such as scalability, stability, and cost-effectiveness need to be addressed. Future research should focus on developing cost-effective and scalable synthesis methods, integrating advanced AI, and assessing long-term environmental impacts.
