Abstract

The chapter addresses the growing problem of e-waste and proposes a recycling procedure for reusing SMD components in e-textiles. It begins by highlighting the exponential increase in e-waste and the need for sustainable solutions. The method involves using conductive textile ribbons and a non-conductive adhesive for component attachment, followed by accelerated ageing tests. The primary objectives are to demonstrate the applicability of the recycling method and to create a risk analysis to mitigate high and very high risks. The chapter includes an Ishikawa diagram and a semi-quantitative risk assessment method, identifying key risks such as component damage and lack of customer interest. Experimental testing shows that reused components maintain comparable electrical resistance, supporting the feasibility of the method. The recalculated risk analysis, based on experimental data, provides insights into mitigating high risks, making the chapter a valuable resource for professionals in electronics and recycling.
