Abstract

The article delves into the critical issue of climate change mitigation through climate-smart agricultural practices (CSAP) in China, focusing on family farms. It discusses the significant greenhouse gas emissions from the agricultural sector and the Chinese government's efforts to promote CSAP. The study reveals that while the adoption of CSAP is not promising, social responsibility awareness (SRA) could be a catalyst for its implementation. The research explores the mediating roles of prosocial motivation (PM) and impression management motivation (IMM) in the relationship between SRA and CSAP adoption, and how government incentives (GI) moderate these effects. The study uses data from 637 family farms across five Chinese provinces, analyzed through multiple linear regression and structural equation modeling, to test the hypotheses. The findings contribute to the understanding of CSAP adoption, particularly in the context of family farms, and provide insights into the psychological and external factors influencing this process.
